WHO WE ARE

Founded by Brazilian artists Deborah Moreira and George Mascarenhas, Mimus – Companhia de Teatro develops physical theatre and dramaturgy works from the investigation of Etienne Decroux’s corporeal mime in contemporary creations.

Since 2007, Mimus has been devising theatre shows and experiments, opening courses and workshops, and helping disseminate knowledge and research on physical theatre.

GEORGE MASCARENHAS

George Mascarenhas is a theatre actor and director. He holds a PhD in Performing Arts and works as professor-researcher of drama and physical theatre at the Federal University of Bahia. A certified mime artist specialized in Etienne Decroux’s corporeal mime, he was fully trained by Steven Wasson and Corinne Soum – Decroux’s last assistants – at the Ecole de Mime Corporel Dramatique (Paris/London) – Ange Fou International Mime School (1998). Over the past 30 years, he has participated as an actor and director in more than 30 shows and is currently the artistic director of Mimus.

DEBORAH MOREIRA

Deborah Moreira is an actor, a playwright, a corporeal mime artist, and a theatre teacher. A B.A in Performing Arts, she also holds a Master’s Degree from the Federal University of Bahia and is a certified mime artist, having been fully trained by George Mascarenhas and late mime artist Nadja Turenkko.

She has participated in more than 20 shows as actor and director, and as a playwright, she has had over 10 plays staged in the past years. In 2015, she debuted as director with O Tigre. Stage plays: Clarices, Francisco and Joana d’Arc (dir. Nadja Turenkko), Alegria de Viver, Jogo da Memória and Na fila (dir. George Mascarenhas).
